The Knox Events Committee has been operating in its current format for approximately 9 years. The current committee formed as Knox’s congregation looked at ways to celebrate its vibrant sense of community as it finished a $2 million project to restore the Sanctuary. We challenged ourselves to find fun events that would help us pay down our mortgage and “share Christ with others”. During this time, with help from a dedicated Event team, our Knox members and the Milton community, we have raised over $150,000 from the Celebration of Music Concert Series, Garage Sales, Bazaars, Luncheons, Flower Sales and scalloped potatoes sales.
Our Concert Season featured diversity in sounds and themes. We have hosted a concert with Frankie and the Fairlanes where we enjoyed the hits of the 50’s and 60’s and the ”new” music that was shaped by early rock and roll. The show was energetic, the costumes colourful and it was fun to hear the stories behind the music. In December, Scott Woods Country Christmas Show brought the best of the season’s music to our sanctuary. We delighted as he played the fiddle with mitts on and listened in awe to “Hallelujah” sung by one of his young performers. The lively cadence of step dancing and flying feet of the performers were equally impressive. We like to think that our guests had a moment of musical wonder and felt lifted as they left each of these events.
No matter if it is a concert or a luncheon, we donate some of our proceeds to groups in our community to allow them to continue with their good works. Food4Kids, an organization that ensure that kids have food on the weekend, and the Milton Food Bank are examples of some of these community partners.
